Another Before & After

Last night I went on a bit of a card bender. I made 16 cards – 8 of which, were remediated from a stack of old cards that I just couldn’t bring myself to send . . . or even use as AnyHero cards (oh yeah, they were THAT bad)

The first time I made the card How I attempted to improve it
  • nice start, but lacked “pop” in terms of colour and focal point
  • doesn’t look “finished”
  • should have used the dark metallic brown paper as the bow for the present … and use the lighter chocolate brown as the card border & sentiment frame
  • had to cover the rough spot where I tore off the sentiment piece
  • the cards seems to “want” more embellishment, but I felt stuck deciding where to put it and what kind of embellishment (now I understand why paper crafters are supply hoarders!)

Overall, this is what I learned:

  • Frame sentiments – unless they are intended to be the whole focal point, keep them a bit smaller
  • Pick your palette from the patterned paper and use it to determine which contrasting colours to use
  • . . . I can’t stop shopping on paper crafting websites
  • Make sure the focal point stands out the most in terms of colour, contrast, and position in the layout
  • Design first, then make – although its tough to design a card from scratch, its even tougher to remediate a terrible card you already made
  • . . . I can’t stop shopping on paper crafting websites
  • Remediating my own old cards challenges me to plan first, then bring elements together better

oh, and did I mention that I can’t stop shopping on paper crafting websites?

I started making cards for OWH in November 2012 … it hasn’t even been 6 months and I am so addicted that work, pets, housekeeping, and hubby are starting to take a backseat. . . anyone finding themselves in this situation? yeow!
