Stay Safe, Honey…

Chicago Police SWAT members conduct a search at the South Shore Motel where at least one shooter was held up inside the motel late Thursday evening. – Scott Stewart~Sun-Times

This has been a busy week for the hubby. He (of course) had regular SORT duty, training days, and then 4 warrants & 3 call outs off-duty … like he’d ever turn down an opportunity to breach, clear, or whatever other things he tells me he did after coming home from a job.

all i know is that i cooked, cleaned, did a lot of laundry, and packed a lot of snacks this week at very, very odd hours… on top of everything else here at home.

people seem to forget that even though my husband is in service (law enforcement or military), i’m part of it too … i’m the invisible support system that keeps the engine running …

i don’t get days off when he’s off (and he’s never really ‘off’ unless he’s on furlough or on leave)… i don’t get to spend any holidays with him because they’re regular work days (or very busy days)… and i definitely don’t get paid anything extra. heck, my sex life is totally on-hold when he’s out in the field too.

… so when friends, colleagues, or family get frustrated with me because i’m too busy to go out, i have a hard time making plans, i have to cancel last minute, or i have to stay at home during the holidays … it’s for good reason.

… would you let your husband leave to work tough hours in dangerous situations without helping him keep things in order at home?

… would you let things at home distract him while he’s on the job?

no. whenever he goes, he goes knowing that everything at home is taken care of, everything is in order, and whatever he needs will be ready and waiting for him when he gets home.

if he’s focused, ready, and sorted out when he leaves, he’s safer.

… and safer is all a wife can ask for when her husband does the kind of work that he does.
